High resolution image of Category-4 Hurricane Wilma's 30-mile diameter eye captured by the MODIS instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft at 11:25 a.m. CDT, 21 Oct., 2005 as the eyewall passes over northern Cozumel Island. The maximum sustained winds at this time were estimated at 140 mph; several hours after this satellite image was taken, a wind gust to 133 mph was measured at a Cancun weather observation site before communications were lost.

High resolution image of Category-5 Hurricane Wilma's 6-mile diameter eye captured by the MODIS instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft at 11:40 a.m. CDT, 19 Oct., in the central Caribbean. The maximum sustained winds at this time were measured by aircraft to be 175 mph and sea level pressure was near 882 mb (26.05 inches). The eye size of 6 miles is a record for the smallest; the pressure measurement was the lowest ever measured in the Atlantic basin.
